A Breach in the Wall, Nicola Smanio, Spencer Taylor, Italy, United States
Blurring the boundaries between inner and outer worlds, this short animated film unfolds as a psychedelic allegory—a dark descent into the twisted complexity of both the system and the self, and a rebellion against the psychological isolation they create.
Echoing the spirit of The Wall, the film paints a surreal landscape where order and obedience clash with imagination and freedom. Through shifting forms and dreamlike sequences, it explores the tension between societal conditioning and the raw, untamed energy of childhood creativity. At its core, it’s a visual manifesto: a call to reclaim the mind from the grey grip of conformity and awaken the forgotten power of the inner child.
Originally conceived as a series of animated sequences for the documentary feature "The Death of Recess" by Spencer Taylor, it tells its own complementary story in this standalone short.
